Diver’s charter

As a member and/or diver complying with Québec government recreational scuba diving regulations, I agree to uphold the following principles:

1.

I recognize that underwater activities carry risks, so I prioritize my safety and that of others by holding a valid Québec government recreational scuba diving qualification certificate, as required by law, and by carrying the recommended emergency equipment.

2.

I perform a self-assessment of my physical and mental health before every dive and postpone my dive if my capabilities are impaired for any reason or if I’m unable to handle a potential emergency.

3.

I assess the environmental conditions of the dive site and ensure that my knowledge and skills are sufficient to conduct the activity safely. I call upon an experienced local guide if needed.

4.

I respect the environment, fauna, and flora at every stage of my underwater activity:

  • I dispose of my waste in appropriate places and leave the site cleaner than I found it.
  • I use appropriate sanitation facilities.
  • I protect the seabed and marine life by avoiding contact with my hands or fins.
  • I take steps to minimize my environmental impact and serve as an ambassador for marine protection (e.g., Longitude 181, Leave No Trace Canada, Project AWARE).
  • In residential areas, I respect residents’ peace by minimizing noise and visible traces of my visit.
  • I comply with posted water access restrictions to support collective efforts for access and promote a positive image of divers.

5.

Both underwater and at the surface, I keep an eye on fellow divers and offer help when needed to the best of my ability. I stay in constant communication with my buddy and respect both their limits and my own.

6.

I treat others with respect, whether or not they are engaged in underwater activities. I share common spaces harmoniously and care for the facilities I use to help maintain access for everyone.

7.

I also respect Québec Subaquatique and its Accreditation service, members, agencies, and industry professionals. I express my opinions in the appropriate forums and use the complaint form on the Québec Subaquatique website to report misconduct or unacceptable situations. I understand that Québec Subaquatique’s social media platforms are not public debate or mediation spaces and agree to use the proper channels to express requests or opinions constructively.
